Art Photographer

Born and raised in Dublin Ireland I moved to New York City in 1980 where I was introduced to the world of black & white photography. I relocated to Sydney Australia in 1996. There I was fortunate to meet a wonderful mentor in master printer, photographer and director of Point Light Gallery, Gordon Undy. Under his guidance my creative vision cleared and my love and knowledge of printing in the darkroom grew.  Another major influence on the direction of my work came by way of  two workshops given by legendary American photographer Ralph Gibson. You can teach yourself anything I suppose but having the help and guidance from these two great photographers was essential in me reaching this stage of my creative journey. Although now working mostly in digital my background in the darkroom and the traditional printing method is the foundation for crafting my images on the screen.

My photographic roots are planted in Film Noir and all that genre evokes by way of lighting, low camera angles and suspense. With the capturing and manipulation of light I try to bring an air of mystery to my work. Hopefully this results in images that are both visually pleasing and leave room for the  viewer's imagination to roam.
